I guess somebody exercised some options…
My Orbino iPod case is delayed
So I saw the Orbino case yesterday and had to order one, I have Martin Fields’ Overlay Plus for the front of my iPod, and Invisible Shield for the sides and back, but I kindda need a clip coz my IEM’s cord isn’t quite long enough to put my pod in my pockets… Anyway, I guess Luxist and iLounge forums brought a lot of orders to Orbino, I just got this from them:
Hi Andrew. Just a note to let you know that due to overwhelming response to our new iPod line, we are experiencing delays in shipments. We will be in touch later in the day to give you a more detailed estimate of when your iPod Video Case will ship. We are really sorry for this unexpected delay but will do our best to get the case to you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.
I’m not really in a hurry to get it, but I’m just curious to see how it looks in person… 🙂 It can’t be longer than customizing a Vaja case though (I hope it won’t)…
brand channel
They only got 2500 people voted from 99 countries? WTF? and probably not the most random sample of people either… But anyway, it’s interested how most people in Asia are still brainwashed by Sony, you’d think with the DRM shit the brand would just f’king die. Also note that in Central and Latin America alcohol like Corona and Bacardi were among the top brands, that is awesome! It’s amazing how high Skype ranked globally too.
how to speed up voicemail for cing and verizon
Saw this on my personalized Goog page:
How to Speed up Cingular Voicemail – WikiHow
I logged onto my VZW voicemail, and was able to change my prompting level to rapid prompting as well… Here’s how:
- press 4 for Personal Options
- press 2 for Administrative Options
- press 1 for General Options
- press 8 for Prompt Level
- press 2 for Rapid Prompt
BUT, I have always been able to delete a message by pressing “7” in the middle of it… so Rapid Prompting only reduces the verbose level of their prompts. 🙂
just got 4 years of Blender, Stuff, and Maxim for free
Blender is actually not a bad magazine, I had them back in Austin and read them… Maxim and Stuff are just for pictures, and they are not even good photography… heh…
The Adrianne Curry pictorials in this month’s Playboy are pretty damn good btw…

Atheros 802.11n is out…
… and we actually had working stuff to demo at the CES, unlike some other big wifi chipmaker… 😉
Wireless Net DesignLine | Atheros delivers early 802.11n solution
Atheros Communications’ AR5008 WLAN chipset implements a three-radio MIMO design that delivers six times the throughput of 802.11g and 802.11a/g products at extended range and with greater reliability.
330 MPG Uber Hybrid?
They plan to sell a revolutionary hybrid two-seater car that they say can get up to 330 miles per gallon, and will sell for under $20,000.

Graham was dead on
As usual, the discussions were almost as good as the essay:
Comments at reddit.com on Graham’s “How to Do What You Love” Essay:
Paul: But, curiously, the two-job approach could be translated into the converse: “get the money, doing what you love will follow.”
That is very true, and it’s exactly what I have been trying to accomplish. It’s the second best, next to the 1-job approach. 😉
new sudo and VIM problem
[SECURITY] [DSA 946-1] New sudo packages fix privilege escalation
I got this security update with aptitude on my own Debian GNU/Linux server and now when I use VIM with sudo (I think) sudo no longer passes the $HOME variable over to VIM, and VIM looks for $HOME/.viminfo by default. I guess $HOME is set to NULL inside sudo, so whenever I exit VIM it bitches about not being able to write to my viminfo file. (for more info about viminfo errors go here and search for the string viminfo-errors)
To fix this I have to do `sudo vi -i ~/.viminfo`, or `sudo -H vim`… for now I will alias “sudo” to “sudo -H”…
Update: after looking at the manpages more, if I set the “always_set_home” flag in my sudoers it will imply “-H” all the time, very nice.
Yahoo finally defaults to SSL login, LOL!
Now we no longer have to click “secure login” to switch to SSL login… I guess Yahoo got a tiny bit smarter…
What does “Submits over SSL” mean?
When you sign in to Yahoo!, you’re now protected via industry-standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption. This means that your password is more secure in transit when you sign in.
