The folks at Newisys finally got their Java verification framework open sourced. Check it out at jove.sf.net.
something’s screwed up on the Internet
Did we lose one of the backbones again? I can’t ping Amazon, A9 (and they’re in Palo Alto, about 10 miles from where I am)… Head-Fi is unreachable as well… And I can’t ping them from home with Comcast, and also from my server in Texas… hmm…
Jay Chou
Just pre-ordered all 6 Jay Chou CDs from YesAsia… I think I will need a 100GB iPod very soon…
It’s interesting that pretty much ALL CHINESE people know ALL of his songs, yet I don’t know anyone who has any real copies of his CDs… They all download them illegally… So wrong… Now, when are we going to have iTMS Taiwan?
iTunes 6.0.1
looks like they already posted a patch to 6.0…
With iTunes 6.0.1, you can preview, buy, and download over 2,000 videos on the iTunes Music Store and sync your music and purchased videos with iPod to enjoy on the go. To watch purchased videos, you must have Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.
iTunes 6.0.1 features several stability improvements over iTunes 6.
After purchasing music from the iTunes Music Store with iTunes 6 or later, you will also need to upgrade your other computers that purchase music from the iTunes Music Store to iTunes 6.0.1.

iPod 5G teardown
PLAY still kindda trending down though… LOL… I guess everybody knew when it was announced so this is not news to investors…
Interesting bits on SGTL:
SigmaTel (SGTL – Hold, $14.70). Although no one had expected
SigmaTel to secure this design win, given its lack of an ARM core
and late delivery of its 3600, we believe that the entrance of
Broadcom into this market adds one more obstacle preventing it
from securing a new Apple design win next year.
Now, if any of my former SigmaTel colleagues reads this, when the f is 3600 going to come out?! 😉
To be fair, when they finally put it out it might replace quite a few of the chips listed in the BOM. (this is all I can say without getting into serious troubles)…
Interesting features/upgrades on new PowerBooks
Interesting features/upgrades on new PowerBooks (15 and 17), besides the
obvious like higher res, longer battery life, and brighter display:
- 8x SuperDrive ( DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) is now
standard - 17″ comes with 120GB hard drive! Wow, that is nice!
- the mini-stereo input (mic) and output (headphone) ports are now
mini-optical ports, just like the port in the Airport Express, this is very cool! - backlit keyboard now standard, this might not be new though, but my 15PB
doesn’t have that - 5.5 hr of battery life is very impressive
- S-Video to composite adaptor included now
It’s disappointing to see the 12″ PowerBook still has a 256MB RAM
module on-board, so maximum without soldering is still 1.25GB.
Apple – Aperture
Won’t replace PS, but might help digital workflow for those who process hundreds of photograph every day… Nice UI for sure… I’ll go try it out at a store later…
The new PBs are nice, but not nice enough to upgrade with the x86 ones coming out next year…
Fedex int’l shipment
WTF, just tracked my iPod and it went from Alaska to Indiana, how f’ed up is that? Went all the way to Indiana and then back out west to NorCal?? This sucks because it means I probably won’t see it until Thursday… oh well…
