Apple MacBook Pro Preview and a Value Proposition for Buying It

A lot of idiots asserted that “Macs are overpriced”, I usually don’t care enough to argue with them coz there is no point and I have better stuff to do with my time and energy. But when asked by some of my acquaintances, I would try (briefly) to explain that if you compared apples to apples Macs are actually quite reasonably priced. (if they kept arguing I would usually drop it coz there is no point convincing them. I’m a shareholder but a very small one, unfortunately.)

Previously PCs and Macs actually shared very similar hardwares, but it was still hard to compare performance without getting into benchmarks. Now with Intel inside we can compare them easier, and notebookreview.com compiled a pretty good table. As expected the MacBook Pro is pretty damn competitively-priced. Check out this link:

MacNN | “Golden Apple” for Jobs due in March

He has certainly done a stellar job, I guess he deserves that $800m, but still, holy shit! that’s a shit load of money!

MacNN | “Golden Apple” for Jobs due in March:

Jobs will be able to cash in on more than $800 million from his restricted stock grant he received in 2003

“It’s a bargain,” said Chuck Jones, who helps manage $16 billion for Atlantic Trust Stein Roe in San Francisco, including Apple shares. “I’d gladly pay him another $808.6 million to have him create another $65 billion in market cap.”

Jobs also owns 60 million shares of his “other” company, Pixar. His 50.1 percent stake in the company, which is worth about $3.4 billion now, has increased in value by 20 percent or more each of the past five years, according to the report.

Wi-Fi Networking News: Apple Switches to Atheros

hmm…

Wi-Fi Networking News: Apple Switches to Atheros:

In the latest Apple products, the first to be based on Intel processors using the Core Duo chips, sources outside of Apple tell me that Atheros chips have been incorporated. The MacBook Pro (the PowerBook replacement) and the Intel-based iMac support 802.11a for the first time, as well. Apple isn?t emphasizing the 802.11a inclusion, and the technical specifications only say ?802.11g standard.?

AppleInsider | Intel Macs add support for 802.11a WiFi standard:

Despite comments from Apple executives that the company would have no part in bringing the 802.11a WiFi specification over to the Macintosh, the first Intel-based Macs announced this week have the capability to connect to third party access points using the standard, AppleInsider has confirmed.

Apple MacBook Pro

Nice, except it doesn’t have FireWire Extreme, but maybe the speed hike in everything else would offset the difference between FW400 and FW800 when I edit pics off my Lacie external HDD.

I’ll wait at least until PS CS2 comes out in x86-mac to upgrade, but I should really wait til second-gen to get one…

Apple – MacBook Pro

You?ve dreamed about it long enough. Now it has a name: MacBook Pro. Powered by a dual-core Intel engine. Up to four times the speed of the PowerBook G4. Eight times the graphics bandwidth.
