Oliver Spencer New York

Yet another place I have to visit when I’m in NYC, the store looks real classy…

For over a decade, English gents and international superstars have hadthe privilege of donning Spencer’s sleek, modern look. Now his latestline of menswear is finally available on this side of the pond. Thestore’s design is a direct extension of the collection’s uniqueaesthetic combining traditional English craftsmanship with minimal 21stcentury silhouettes and trends. Spencer himself hopes to teach Americanmen to be more adventurous and embrace their dormant dandyism byembracing an eclectic theme for their wardrobes rather than choosingpieces that all come from the same label. To that end, the store alsocarries some vintage mail bags, several English brands foundexclusively in the U.S. like Linda Farrow sunglasses, Bill Ambergleather bags and Folk Shoes, as well as clothing from Nice Collective,Rogues Gallery, Rag and Bone and Engineered Garments.

R by 45rpm Jomon’s

Yes, I’m already thinking about what my next project denim would be… Right now I’m really digging some R by 45rpm slim stuff… I am very curious how their Jomon fits, these make my Dior Homme dirt cheap in comparison, diam… Hopefully I won’t have to pay sales tax on these when I buy them…

The Sorahiko slim, available in both raw or one wash, are much less expensive, maybe I’ll go “cheap” and get those instead… well, it will be at least 6 months from now til I get another pair so I got time to decide… ๐Ÿ™‚

Self Edge SF Update

Kiya posted an update on Self Edge at SuperFuture, no mentioning of a Union Special machine yet… ๐Ÿ™‚

Self Edge Update – San Francisco…

So…

where do i start?

We here at Self Edge have been working 24/7 to bring denim heads what
they’ve been wanting; the vision of what i wanted in terms of selection
from a denim store is coming to life. We are still on track to open our
doors Wednesday, November 1 at noon.

here’s some updates on stock..

-Imperial Denim

-Sugarcanes

-Iron Heart

-Nudies

-Samurai

-Iron Army (for women only)

-Sling & Stone (for women only)

And of course non-denim brands such as MOB (most official bitches), Homeroom, Mama, BiJules, Once Upon a Time, Orisue, House33, Mighty Healthy, Diamond, aNYthing, RockersNYC, Self Edge x Homeroom, and
more…

To those who’ve emailed me in the past month or so with positive words, thank you…

To those that are inquiring about exactly which cuts we’re getting in
from a certain designer, it’s too much for us to answer those questions
at the moment because our heads are filled with hundreds of cuts and
washes and styles… We chose what we liked from every designer and we
hope that once you see what we have in stock you’ll agree. There are a
few things we’ve got that i’ve never seen any other place, come in and
check em out. The online store will be opening mid/late-november with
most of our denim stock being available online.

The opening party will take place at 6pm on November 18th at Self Edge
with J-Zone (nyc, old maid billionaires) playing his trademark style of
ignant hiphop.

things to look forward to..

-Superfuture Party, tentative date is January 6, bring your nametag

-Self Edge x Iron Army Selvedge Indigo Slim Anti-Fit Jeans

-Death from Exhaustion

Don’t Believe the Hypebeast >> Supreme Installs Software On Site to Prevent Sales, LOL!

I recently subscribed to this feed and they’re pretty damn funny…

In an effort to make their online experience similar to that oftheir stores, skate shop Supreme has installed a new software on theirsite to prevent the sale of any product to consumers.

This new software includes a filter that blocks the user from seeingthe price, availibility or quantity of product on hand. You can tryemailing the webmasters, but they will probably to busy doing olliesand other gnarly skate tricks to get back to you.

denim update

I’ve fully retired my RRDS coz they are way too baggy for my liking, I still rock the APC NS, but maybe because I skate in them a lot, they are pretty damn baggy as well, at least around the ass… ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am working on a pair of Dior Homme 19cm raw right now and I love the fit. I’m on my 2nd week with them and they’ve stretched out to a perfect fit. The stretching process was short and was nowhere as painful as the APC NS!!

I snapped some pics to document the progress on my Nudies RRDS and APC NS, the RRDS got about 3 months of actual wear, the APC has about 4 months. I haven’t wash or soak either of them. I actually bought them pretty much the same time but I had to exchange my RRDS twice to get the right size, and the 2 times took over 3 weeks, the third time I found out Kitchener actually could ship global priority (whatever the Swiss equivalent is called) and got the 2nd replacement within a few days. That’s why the APC’s got more an extra month of wear and it really shows on the denim.

Anyway, here are some pics, enjoy…

diam, this dude got some insane wear for 4 months!

these are superfuture member kumo’s APC NS, 4 months, no wash. Those are some insanely nice honeycombs! Mine are about 4 months of actual wear since I alternated between my RRDS and APC, but my ‘combs are nowhere defined like those!! I even starched the first 2 months or so, but got lazy at the end.

Also I now kindda wish I let them bunched up instead of cuffing them… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Finally, a denim store in SF worth spending my money at

Got this in my inbox today:

hey andrew, i just read your review for the Blue Jeans Bar in sf and wanted to let you know that i’m opening Self Edge in san francisco next month. i think you’ll be into it.

๐Ÿ™‚

www.selfedge.com

Looks like the same fine folks behind TurfSM will be opening a denim store in SF this November, from their website I saw Iron Heart, Sugar Cane, Samurai, and Nudies… Would be nice to have PBJ and Oni too, but that’s a great stock list to start with!! It’s located at a nice area too, close to Ritual Coffee and Shoe Biz and stuff… oh btw, Ritual has some crazy fast wifi, maybe coz they’re on speakeasy.net, but I went to speakeasy’s speed test and got some insanely high speed when I was there last time… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Blue In Green online store is up!

AWESOME! They even offer chainstitching!! That’s dope! Maybe afterall I won’t have to go to Tokyo the next time I need jeans. I think I can start a new pair next March, thinking about either the 19CM or the PBJ xx-005, leaning toward the PBJ.

They need to put up some reference for sizing, like relative sizing to other brands (APC is a good reference). Also need information on shrinkage, whether they need a cold-soak, sanforized or not, etc etc… Otherwise, they are looking at a shit load of returns and exchanges…

AMEX Depature mag article: Where’s the Logo?

Simon Doonan, the debonair creative director of Barneys New York, believes most of us rather like the idea of having something few others have?and that fewer still even realize we have it. “Ultimately those embellishments become markers of prestige,” he explains. “It’s subtler than putting a logo on, but in the end it’s the same. People respond to them because there is a certain knowingness in wearing them. It implies, ‘I’m a connoisseur about my purchases because I’ve recognized this detail.'”

Very true, most of the stuff I wear or use is pretty obscure and very few people around me would notice, but when I run into somebody who does notice, it’s cool… Like a few of the people in line at Recon when the Alcatraz dunks dropped noticed the Spruce and a few even asked where the heck I got it from…
