Macworld: Podcasts: Macworld Podcast #30: Intel Mac minis, iPod Hi-Fi
Cyrus Farivar talked about the iPod HiFi in the MacWorld podcast, he seems to know what he’s talking about, he noted that the iPod HiFi does have distortion, it doesn’t separate, and it has a flat mid-range and low bass. It also has no real soundscape. Sounds like I should go for some serious amplifiers and a pair of Bosendorfer speakers. I have always LOVED their pianos, if they have the expertise to build such amazing pianos, speakers should be piece of cake…

Here’s how the Bosendorfer loudspeakers look like, aren’t they f’king sweet?

Sirius online

So you can get a 3-day trial for Sirius Online, I’m listening to it right now, as expected, the sound quality is crap. I would sign up if I can listen to the Howard Stern show from the morning, I never get up early enough to listen to it. They should make it available to subscribers as a podcast, then I would definitely subscribe…

more on iPod Hi-Fi sound quality

This is what iLounge had to say in their brief review:

iPod Hi-Fi High-Fidelity Speaker System for iPod | First Look

Audio quality? We don?t ever like to comment on this until we?ve done straight comparisons, but it was evident in each of Apple?s four demo rooms that the Hi-Fi is capable of revealing flaws in compressed audio – good for audiophiles, perhaps less so for average people or those accustomed to iTunes Music Store downloads. Apple claims to have focused tremendous energy on getting the stereo soundstaging and spacialization right, as well as eliminating distortion at top (room-filling) volume. We?ll have more to say on this in the days to come.

Damn! Color me impressed! If this thing is good enough to reveal compression artifacts, I’ll probably be getting one! my pod is Apple Lossless, and my current solution; iTunes over ethernet to Airport Express, and optical to Toslink input of my Onkyo receiver and to my HTIB speakers, doesn’t really sound all that good. Well, for $400 at Fry’s the HTIB system is good enough for movies, but definitely not good enough for music. I guess the fact that I’ve accustomed to how the tracks sound with my Sensaphonics IEMs doesn’t help…

iPod Hi-Fi, and new leather case

No surprises from the 2/28 event, I’m curious to hear how the iPod Hi-Fi sounds like, for $350, which makes this thing less expensive than most in-ear-monitors, it is most likely not truly “Hi-Fi”, but it still does cost quite a bit more than the other solutions, and it has an optical input for the Airport Express! I will def go audition one of these at a store.

They also announced the above leather iPod case. For $99, and it’s just a leather version of the included pouch? Looks like a snug fit so taking the iPod in and out of this thing will probably remove my Martin Fields Overlay Plus and might even mess up the InvisibleShield on the backplate.btw, my Orbino case is still not here!!

What was wrong with the sound engineers at the Grammy’s?

I thought the show was pretty damn good, John Legend was freaking amazing! But wtf was wrong with the sound?? the show had crazy feedback and mic problems everywhere… I saw more UE10Pro than Sensaphonics 2X-S at the show… hmm…

Also, there were only maybe 2 performances that were entirely in tune, it was a bit of torture to watch it for us with perfect pitch. Maybe that had to do with the sound engineers too…

My Orbino iPod case is delayed

So I saw the Orbino case yesterday and had to order one, I have Martin Fields’ Overlay Plus for the front of my iPod, and Invisible Shield for the sides and back, but I kindda need a clip coz my IEM’s cord isn’t quite long enough to put my pod in my pockets… Anyway, I guess Luxist and iLounge forums brought a lot of orders to Orbino, I just got this from them:

Hi Andrew. Just a note to let you know that due to overwhelming response to our new iPod line, we are experiencing delays in shipments. We will be in touch later in the day to give you a more detailed estimate of when your iPod Video Case will ship. We are really sorry for this unexpected delay but will do our best to get the case to you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I’m not really in a hurry to get it, but I’m just curious to see how it looks in person… 🙂 It can’t be longer than customizing a Vaja case though (I hope it won’t)…
