Chuck Maddox wrote a very entertaining post at his watch blog, I love this part:

All a Tachymetre bezel is a scale that divides the 3600 (the number of minutes (60) times the number of seconds (60) = 3,600) by the number of seconds to generate a “Units per Hour” indication. The number would be the same if measuring Kilometre’s, miles, or furlongs. Why anyone would do a conversion when one is not necessary is confounding.

People respond to them because there is a certain knowingness in wearing them. It implies, ‘I’m a connoisseur about my purchases because I’ve recognized this detail.’”

Very true, most of the stuff I wear or use is pretty obscure and very few people around me would notice, but when I run into somebody who does notice, it’s cool… Like a few of the people in line at Recon when the Alcatraz dunks dropped noticed the Spruce and a few even asked where the heck I got it from…

Sherry’s Speedy Reduced

Copped this from my AD, just came in today. It’s got the Dubois-Depraz “piggyback” movement, which is pretty much an ETA watch with the chronograph function on it. Since it’s like 2 movements it’s highly jeweled. Most chronoheads don’t dig this movement but it is probably more reliable than the Piguet-based c.33xx or the c.3603 in my BA GMT. It’s a great deal I think for such a great looking lady chronograph.

I didn’t know the ladies’ Omega’s come in such nice packaging!!

With the bracelet disconnected it was easy to get shots of the display back, so I snapped a few pics. I forgot to clean the crystal for these pics, so the ones of the display back look a bit foggy; part of it was due to the reflection of the white wall next to where I was too… So these pics are kindda mediocre, hehe… In the first one you can see the hairspring, in the second image you can see the column wheel for the chronograph. The last pic is a snap of the entire watch coz I realized I didn’t actually have a shot of the whole thing.

Bob Davis’ bracelet resizing tools

Both my Speedy and SeMP’s bracelets are slightly too loose, instead of bring them to a jewelery repair shop to resize, I decided to DIY it. After a bit of research, I found Keith Downing’s recommendation on Bob Davis’ resizing tool, it looks super easy to use and with shipping it’s only $20 or so, so I ordered one and it came in today. Here’s a picture of the tool from Bob’s website.

With this I resized both bracelets in no time, this thing is awesome!! The cost of getting one bracelet resized you can own your own resizing tool! Next time I’m gonna pick up his spring bar tool, coz it was a pain to change straps on my RXW MM20 after I changed the screw-in bars to spring bars…

Second BA GMT is here, and I love it!!

The first one not working out made me want this watch even more!! It is absolutely gorgeous! I saw a ton of watches in Vegas last weekend, including the other “contenders” for this price range (well, very broadly): El Primero, Daytona, “regular” BA, Rattrapante, Panny chrono, PO Chrono. I really do like this one the most, not to mention it is a hell of a deal if you compare it to the Daytona and El Primero. I know, the calibre is questionable, which is kindda a big deal to me, so we’ll see… Played with the chrono A LOT tonight and it always reset to zero, so far so good.

Just my bad luck, new watch came BROKEN!!

So kindda made an impulse purchase on a watch, got it today and the crown came off when I tried to set the time!!

Amazingly some responses noted that this is not unusual with Swiss watches, but is this really what we expect from a watch with a list price of $6300???? Well, it could’ve been damaged during shipping too, but it was shipped UPS Next Day air with a slip that indicated it was insured and contained high value content (I asked why I had to sign twice and that was what the UPS guy told me), I would think they would at least handle it with care…
